Marc Márquez once again set the pace in the second free practice session of the MotoGP Thai GP. In a session intended to prepare for qualifying and the races, lap times were far from as fast as in yesterday afternoon’s practice in Buriram.
The first leader of the session was Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), 0.389s ahead of Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati), with Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM) close behind. Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) was initially in 17th.
In the second flying laps, Martín got the lead, and Marc Márquez improved to place himself in second, pushing Bagnaia down to third. Álex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) reached fourth, while Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), testing his physical condition, was in fifth.
A surprise came with 23 minutes left, as Augusto Fernández (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM) briefly took the lead, only to be quickly overtaken by Bagnaia and Marc Márquez. The eight-time world champion then became the leader as the first to lap in the 1m29s range.
In the final five minutes, Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac/Ducati) climbed to second, just 0.171s behind Marc Márquez. Nothing else changed at the front until the end, leaving Marc Márquez in the lead, with Morbidelli in second, Bagnaia in third, and Martín in fourth. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM) completed the top five ahead of Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha).
