Álex Márquez has recently been involved in some controversial crashes in MotoGP, but at Phillip Island, one of the biggest topics was the crash between Marco Bezzecchi and Maverick Viñales, which deserved a comment from the Spaniard.
Highlighting that this type of collision is nothing new in racing, the Gresini rider believes that the incident will not affect anything: ‘For sure it doesn’t affect anything. It’s nothing new. We’ve seen moments like this in the past’.
However, and given the evolution of bikes and aerodynamic appendages, these incidents become ‘worse’, he believes: ‘Now, with aerodynamics, when you have moments like this, it’s even worse, isn’t it? So you have to predict. But many times, when you try to predict, you brake a little earlier and that’s not enough’.
For the Gresini rider, Bezzecchi’s mistake in the specific case was not anticipating Viñales’ movement correctly: ‘In this case, Marco’s mistake was not predicting that Viñales could be on his line when entering the corner’.
