Álex Márquez reacted to two consecutive retirements with a 15th place finish at the MotoGP Australian GP. However, the result was far from particularly good, especially considering how the weekend at Phillip Island began.
The Gresini rider showed promising signs in Friday’s practice, finishing second behind his brother and teammate Marc Márquez – who ended up winning the race. However, he was unable to replicate that performance for the rest of the weekend and struggled to be competitive.
Despite salvaging a single point, the result was well below Álex Márquez’s usual standards – until now, he had only failed to finish in the top ten once in the races he completed, and five times overall
Nonetheless, the Spaniard mentioned that, after some psychologically impactful incidents recently, he is recovering and on the right path to regain his confidence:
– I think we are close to make the next step and to feel the confidence again. We are coming from really bad… I wouldn’t say performance, but many things happened to us in Indonesia, Misano, I would say in Aragón. So, we need to overcome those things and try to be better for the last three races, and finish the season in a good way.
