Ducati has chosen Marc Márquez for 2025, bringing the eight-time world champion alongside Francesco Bagnaia—who won titles in 2022 and 2023 and is currently in contention again this year.
The decision sparked controversy, particularly because Jorge Martín was not selected. Martín has been performing well with Prima Pramac and is currently leading the championship after finishing as runner-up in 2023. Ducati’s choice boiled down to either Márquez’s vast experience, established name, and record of titles, or Martín’s present and future potential.
In an interview with MOW Mag, Giacomo Agostini commented: ‘These are options. Ducati already had the world champion, which is Pecco Bagnaia, and then they had the chance to also get the most titled active rider. Time will tell if they were wrong or not’.
The record-holder for world titles added: ‘There are situations where every choice can be right or wrong, and you just have to follow one path over another. However, selfishly, I say that we will certainly have a more balanced championship’.
