Jorge Martín and Francesco Bagnaia are once again the key figures in the battle for the MotoGP title. For the second consecutive year, the duel between the two is expected to continue all the way to the final round in Valencia.
Carlos Checa, now a TV commentator who closely follows the premier class, was approached by Motosan.es to discuss the strengths of each title contender, starting with Martín:
– Well, I think he’s very fast over a single lap, and I believe he has a very strong race start. I think these are his strengths and key factors that could help him win the championship. […]. Right now, Jorge is the fastest rider on track.
Regarding Bagnaia, Checa shared his thoughts on the Italian’s best qualities: ‘Well, Pecco’s strength is his consistency. I don’t know exactly what his standout strengths are. I would say it’s his ability to manage races. But look at Misano, and it’s clear that when you’re already chasing from behind, everything gets more complicated. If Pecco doesn’t improve his starts and initial race pace, I honestly think he will struggle because there are now three or four riders who can get ahead, and then it takes him half the race to catch up. Meanwhile, Jorge can open up a two-second gap, and recovering those seconds when things are so evenly matched, or two or three seconds, can put you in a really tough place’.
