The electric motorcycle and light vehicle sector in Spain continues to face significant challenges, with the latest data revealing a worrying trend. In September, the market recorded a sharp decline of 38.6%, with only 718 units registered.
This decline is not an isolated phenomenon. Since the beginning of the year, the sector has accumulated a decrease of 38.8%, totaling 6,979 registrations. These numbers contrast strongly with the overall performance of the two-wheeler market, which showed a growth of 15.8% in September, with 22,059 units sold.
A more detailed analysis reveals significant variations among different types of electric vehicles. Electric motorcycles registered an increase of 29.6% in September, although the annual cumulative still shows a 3.4% drop. On the other hand, electric scooters and mopeds suffered steeper falls, with decreases of 55% and 26.2% respectively in September.
Regarding distribution channels, the private market showed greater resilience, with a fall of only 2.4% in September. In contrast, the rental and business sectors faced more severe declines, of 56% and 79.8% respectively.
Regionally, Catalonia leads registrations with 206 units, followed by Madrid with 124 and Andalusia with 117.
These data suggest that, despite overall growth in the two-wheeler sector, the electric segment faces significant challenges in adoption and demand from Spanish consumers.
