The pole position for the Moto2 Indonesian GP has been secured by Arón Canet. The Spaniard led nearly the entire second qualifying session this Saturday in Mandalika but did not break the record lap he set this morning in Practice 2.
Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) was the fastest on the opening laps, with Alonso López (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) in second, 0.191s behind, followed by the surprising Barry Baltus (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP/Kalex).
With less than eight minutes remaining, Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) climbed to second and was just 0.038s behind Canet, while Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) and Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) made their way into the top five.
In the final five minutes, Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) began to put pressure on Canet, but Canet improved his time… while González was overtaken by Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar/Kalex) and then by Ogura, who moved up to second.
No one was able to take the pole position from Canet, but Dixon managed to reach second place, finishing just 0.069s behind… and only one thousandth of a second ahead of the championship leader, Ogura, who will start from third.
