Once again, the fastest lap in Moto2 at the Mandalika circuit was shattered during Practice 2 of the Indonesian GP. The rider responsible for this feat was Arón Canet.
After the first few laps, Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) held the lead, only to be beaten by Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex). The Italian immediately improved his time, maintaining the top spot for over 20 minutes.
However, Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) then posted an unbeatable lap of 1m33.077s, setting a new lap record for Mandalika. None of his competitors could match his pace, with Arbolino remaining in second, 0.198s behind, followed by Aldeguer and Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex).
Only two riders failed to improve on their times from Practice 1, including championship leader Ai Ogura, who ended the session in seventh place.
The last rider to secure direct entry to Q2 was Jaume Masía (Preicanos Racing Team/Kalex), finishing 14th by just 0.018s ahead of Izán Guevara (CFMOTO Inde Aspar/Kalex).
