World Superbike Championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu has been declared fit to participate in the Aragon round following a medical assessment conducted on Thursday. The Turkish rider for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team, who suffered a minor pneumothorax injury in a crash during free practice at Magny-Cours four weeks ago, has been given the green light to return to the track.
The news comes at a crucial time for the 2021 champion, who has seen his championship lead dramatically reduced during his absence. From a comfortable 92-point margin, Razgatlioglu now finds himself with just a 13-point advantage over his closest pursuer, rookie Nicolo Bulega of Aruba.it Racing – Ducati.
Despite medical clearance, Razgatlioglu will be reassessed after the first free practice session on Friday, as his physical condition to withstand the full duration of the races remains uncertain, adding an element of unpredictability to his performance this weekend.
Upon leaving the medical center, a visibly excited Razgatlioglu stated: ‘Finally! Yes, I’m fit, finally. After four more weeks, finally we come back. I’m really excited for tomorrow’.
