Yamaha is developing a V4 engine for MotoGP, embracing a new concept after many years of using an inline-four engine – the only manufacturer with this configuration since Suzuki’s exit at the end of 2022.
Fabio Quartararo, one of Yamaha’s riders, addressed this decision in a press conference: ‘When, I have no idea. But in the end it has been a long time that we are hearing that Yamaha is working on a V4. They are to at least trying to put everything together for many months, we have seen new people, a new mentality’.
The 2021 world champion believes that Yamaha is on the right track and that the effort is evident, though he highlighted that the transition is a process that requires time:
– I think the way we are working is a good one, but you cannot change a mentality just in a few weeks. So I think right now we are finding a way to work, but in the last three or four years we have been really far away from the European manufacturers. So we are trying to catch up, and I think Yamaha is doing a really good job.
