The Misano GP will go down in the history books as an exciting and eventful race, largely due to the rain, which forced some unexpected moves on the track, and Marc Márquez’s victory in challenging conditions.
Ramón Forcada has many years of MotoGP experience at the highest level and he analyzed Márquez’s performance, highlighting the Spanish rider’s exceptional ability in mixed conditions, recalling in words to Duralavita and quoted by Motosan, a premonitory moment from the Austrian GP, where Márquez expressed his desire for similar conditions:
– Let’s remember in Austria when Marc said «a few drops, please». Because he knows how to deal with these conditions when it starts to rain. And he showed it at Misano and he’s always shown it.
The race at Misano started with a dry track, but the arrival of the rain turned it into a challenge of tire management and constant adaptation led to some drastic changes, and with Márquez standing out with impressive pace on track: ‘But for me, I would take one more thing [in mind], because it started raining and there was a big group of specialists in mixed conditions, and they were all at the front, but then, when it started drying, the speed he was going at was brutal. It was confidence or unconsciousness, that’s for Marc to say’.
The Spaniard stressed that the combination of factors needed for a change in the championship lined up perfectly in this race, resulting in a memorable spectacle for the spectators and a crucial victory for Márquez, which was the rider’s second – in long races on a Sunday – in this championship, after he won 1043 days later at Aragon.
