Ducati has dominated MotoGP in recent years and proof of this are the two world titles won by Pecco Bagnaia in 2022 and 2023, with 2024 sure to be another triumphant year in the category for the Italian manufacturer, which has Jorge Martín, Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini and Marc Márquez as the quartet of main contenders for the new title. There is another Italian team that has been somewhat in the shadow of its counterpart, Aprilia, which believes that the exchange of data, and especially with so many bikes on the track, has been the recipe for success.
The CEO of the Noale-based team explained to FormulaPassion, quoted by Motosan, that Ducati has been drinking a lot from the sharing of data between the (still) eight bikes, half of which are factory bikes – Ducati Lenovo Team (Bagnaia and Bastianini), and Pramac Racing (Martín and Franco Morbidelli) – and that Aprilia is trying to involve the riders more and more, along with the work done on a daily basis with the technicians who have been working with the RS-GP, saying: ‘There is a daily confrontation with our technicians, the debriefings are also done by their riders’.
Rivola went on to say that a lot of data, and the sharing of it, is the basis of the recipe for what has been Ducati’s winning path:
– I believe very much in the exchange of data, which has been the key element of Ducati’s success. In general, to look at the results we also have to think about ourselves and not just about others. We’re improving: it’s obvious that if others have made a bigger jump, we have to work even harder.
Aprilia, it’s worth remembering, has had a satellite team since 2023 – now Trackhouse Racing – with Miguel Oliveira and Raúl Fernández – although in 2022 the management was different, with the same pair of riders but under the colors and management of CryptoDATA RNF.
2025 will also be a year of drastic changes for Aprilia, with three new riders joining the structure: Martín and Marco Bezzecchi in the factory team, and Somkiat Chantra in the Trackhouse, to join Raúl Fernández, the rider who will have the most experience with the bike.
It should also be noted that Aleix Espargaró will give up his full-time career as a rider and become a Honda test rider, Maverick Viñales will join GASGAS Tech3/KTM, and Miguel Oliveira will continue his career with Pramac Racing, which is leaving its role as a Ducati satellite at the end of this year to join Yamaha.
