Jorge Martín had a very important decision in the last Sunday race that ended up being a real ‘shooting in foot’, choosing to go to the team’s garage and swap motorcycle – prepared for wet time. Fabio Quartaro was asked about the topic and if radio communication with pilots could have “help” the pilot to take a different option.
The Yamaha pilot was questioned by the press, after the testing system testing with the drivers that should be implemented next to the, if the opponent may not have made such a mistake if he had in touch with the team, which deserved the following comment of the former world champion
– In cases like Sunday, the team couldn’t have said so much. In the end, it was tough and we all stayed outside [on track, without changing motorcycles, almost everyone], but the decision was from the riders. If the team tells me to go to the pits and I see that the others continue on track, I won’t go. Also because here, for example, it was the condition where I could earn something and reduce the difference, but on the next lap I would come back into.
The risk of #89 ended up not paying off once the rain stopped quickly, but Quartararo isn’t the opinion that it was a mistake: ‘When Jorge came back, it wasn’t raining too much and we know this track drys quickly. I’d say he didn’t make a mistake because he came back in but rather because he saw that Pecco was sitting out and he’s his opponent in the title. It was a bet, another turn in the rain and would have been different’.
