Sixteenth in the Misano tests, in the last session yesterday, Álex Rins was very pleased with the performance gain of Yamaha’s new bike for 2025, but more data is needed to prove the gains achieved. However, more than half a second per lap in race pace is already worth noting, and a reason for guaranteed happiness.
About the new bike and whether it is a step in the right direction and recovery, Rins said, with a word also towards the new tire tested: ‘We will certainly test more, but we added more data – not enough – but some data anyway, some good lap times with that tire’.
There was a lot to test and the gains remarkable: ‘We tested many things. Some chassis settings, some of what could be the base of the 2025 engine. It was very good. We started by using the engine we used in Motorland […], but honestly, using only this updated engine I gained 0.5/0.7s from my pace and that was unbelievable. Lap by lap I was getting more used to the bike, testing some settings and it was good to see’.
If that was one of the most positive points, Rins made it clear: ‘Honestly, in one of the things I did, I felt a big, big difference in terms of traction so… yes’.
