Yari Montella claimed victory in the second World Supersport Championship race at Magny-Cours on Sunday, finishing the round with a strong push towards the championship lead.
Can Öncü (Kawasaki Puccetti) held the lead after the start, but was overtaken by Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati) on the second lap, while Adrián Huertas (Aruba.it Ducati) was in fifth place. However, with 16 laps to go, Huertas made a significant move, gaining three positions in one go to move into second.
The most impressive recovery came from Stefano Manzi (Pata Ten Kate Yamaha), who moved up from 11th place, steadily gaining positions to join the podium after six laps. The Italian’s progress didn’t stop there; with eight laps remaining, he overtook Huertas, and then moved past Montella with five laps to go.
The intense battle for victory continued among the three riders until the end. Montella led at the start of the last lap but had to fend off Manzi, crossing the finish line with just a 0.171s advantage over his rival. Huertas was unable to keep up, finishing third, 1.209s behind. Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph) and Jorge Navarro (Orelac Racing VerdNatura/Ducati) rounded out the top five.
