The Moto2 lap record at Misano was broken this morning during Practice 2 of the San Marino GP, with Arón Canet achieving the feat to top the session. Only two riders failed to improve compared to yesterday’s afternoon session.
After four different riders briefly led within the first six minutes, Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) set a time that kept him at the top of the timesheets for over 15 minutes.
However, in the last ten minutes, there was another phase of constant changes in leadership. Canet was overtaken by Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) with 23 minutes elapsed.
In the following two minutes, four more riders took turns at the top, but near the end, Canet set a new lap record (1m35.185s) to secure the session lead. Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex) finished second, 0.235s behind, followed by Ai Ogura (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro).
The top five was rounded out by Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) and Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro).
The last rider to qualify directly for the second phase of qualifying was Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex), who with 14th place in the combined times from both practices edged out championship leader Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) by 0.041s, relegating the Spaniard to Q1.
