It has been a common sight this season, and it happened again this morning: David Alonso led the free practice session of the Moto3 San Marino GP.
The Colombian from CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar was already leading after the first few laps but was briefly overtaken by Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) before regaining the top spot. Alonso then suffered a small crash at turn four, without any serious consequences. After that, David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM) took the lead, only to be surpassed by Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda).
However, Muñoz responded immediately, retaking the lead, where he remained for over 14 minutes… until Alonso put together a sequence of two fast laps to secure the lead by the end of the session.
José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) came close, finishing just 0.098s behind, with Ortolá in third, 0.273s off the pace. The top five was rounded out by Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) and Muñoz.
