Takaaki Nakagami’s place at LCR Honda and in MotoGP is in serious jeopardy. Without a contract, recent rumors have suggested that Somkiat Chantra might sign with HRC to take his seat.
However, at the Austrian GP, Nakagami responded well to the ongoing speculation. The Japanese rider matched his best result of the season by finishing 14th and achieved his best streak of scoring points in three consecutive Grands Prix.
In comparison to the other Honda riders, this was Nakagami’s best round. He not only outperformed the other three riders (Repsol Honda and LCR Honda) but was also the only one to score points.
This was the first time this season that Nakagami had managed to be the top Honda rider. Nonetheless, he had previously been the best Honda rider in Catalunya, beating Joan Mir (Repsol Honda), and in Germany, finishing just ahead of Luca Marini (Repsol Honda).
