José Antonio Rueda was the fastest on Friday in the Moto3 Austrian GP. The rider set a new category lap record at the Red Bull Ring, surpassing the mark previously set by David Alonso earlier in the day.
After the initial flying laps, Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) was in the lead. However, he was soon overtaken as several riders, including Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), moved ahead.
By the end of the first quarter-hour, Holgado managed to hold the lead for a longer period but eventually lost it to Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar). About five minutes later, Alonso was surpassed by Collin Veijer.
The Dutch rider from Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP made a sequence of three fast laps but was eventually overtaken in the final five minutes. Rueda set a new record lap time of 1m40.171s, beating Alonso by 0.051s. Veijer finished 0.069s behind, followed by Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports/KTM) and Stefano Nepa (LevelUp-MTA/KTM). Holgado ended up in ninth place.
