Jack Miller made his MotoGP debut in 2015, and since then the bikes changed a lot. The technology evolved radically, and also the solutions applied to the bikes – particularly in the aerodynamics aspect.
The Australian said to the PecinoGP channel on YouTube that the bike and the way of riding it changed significantly in the last decade: ‘It changed incredibly since I first came in: where we sit more or less central or move the ass a little bit to where we are now. Don’t get me wrong, when I came in everybody was touching the elbows [on the ground] and so on, but not like we are today. Now the shoulder is nearly on the ground’.
And those changes come to a point of requiring adjustments to the leather racing suits, as Miller revealed: ‘I had to have my suits adjusted after Mugello because the way I was hanging out of the bike in Mugello, the suit was not fitting any more comfortably and was cutting off some circulation because you are stretching so much further than I’ve ever stretched in my life while riding a bike’.
The current Red Bull KTM rider also said: ‘I feel my style has changed incredibly, but when I watch videos of these guys touching the shoulder like it’s nothing – hand off the handlebar – I don’t feel like I’m doing it like that, but sometimes when I look at some photos I am surprised at how I look on the bike’.
