Enea Bastianini will change teams at the end of this season, moving from factory Ducati to the satellite of KTM, GASGAS Tech3 and… he might have acted too fast when it came to make a decision, or so it is Neil Hodgson’s belief.
The former rider, who is with TNT Sports as a commentator gave his opinion on the italian move, while also clarifying that it was his wish to stay at Ducati: ‘In reality, we know he wanted to stay but it was taken away from him’.
He then said that, for him and given the grid is taking shape for the next season, he didn’t want to be among the last to pick a team, and decided to take on the seat from Tech3 right away, showing a bit of eargerness to do so: ‘I think he panicked a little bit. All of the seats were being taken up quickly. The Tech3 KTM seat was available and he just jumped ship’.
Before making the move to sign with Hervé’s Poncharal team, he was linked, more than once, to Aprilia, but that didn’t happened, and Hodgson seemed to believe, it could have… if he was patient enough: ‘If he waited, even two or three days, the factory Aprilia ride would have been available for him. I think they would have chosen Enea in front of Marco Bezzecchi. I would have, if I had the choice of those two riders’.
Now, given the latest development, Hodgson believes the rider regretted already: ‘I think he’ll regret that now. But, if you don’t make a decision? Someone will end up with no ride!’.
