Moto2 and Moto3 underwent a major change from last year to this year in terms of tire supplier, and Fermín Aldeguer, one of the main faces of the intermediate class world championship and who is fighting for the title, admitted that this change has already caused him several setbacks.
The rider who in 2024 will be in MotoGP – it is still unknown whether with the VR46 Racing Team or with Gresini Racing, spoke with MotoSprint about the topic of tires and how they brought him problems, especially at the beginning: ‘We didn’t start as we expected, we had some problems with the new tires, but we are at the highest level and we are the strongest in the category’.
Currently fourth in the standings and 39 points behind the leader, Sergio García, Aldeguer spoke about the consistency he lost from one year to the next, which has caused him some problems, with many Long Lap penalties to serve: ‘I lost the consistency, the ability to avoid mistakes. I made several, for example in Portimão with the jump start, in Barcelona I fell when I was doing the Long Lap, where we had everything to win’.
Aldeguer said that the tires are indeed different, but that he is in the process of learning and increasingly comfortable: ‘The goal is to improve and keep this anger at a distance. Pirelli tires are very different from Dunlops. They are not easy to manage. There are races in which we don’t use them [referring to wear], others in which we have to manage them. Little by little, we are understanding them more and more’.
