In 2025, Aleix Espargaró will be a test rider for Honda in MotoGP. After retiring from full-time racing at the end of this season, the Spaniard decided to transition to this role, similar to what some others, including his brother Pol Espargaró, have done in recent years.
From Honda’s perspective, team director Alberto Puig explained to Paddock-GP.com, as cited by Motosan.es, how Aleix Espargaró could be an asset:
– Aleix decided to retire, and we thought he was still a very fast rider. And he has experience. He has raced for many manufacturers and is not so young, which means he has good experience and a good understanding of the MotoGP machine. He is clearly fast and in shape. So, we think he can help us understand different possibilities, coming from another manufacturer.
On the other hand, Puig admitted that Honda needs another test rider to join Stefan Bradl: ‘It is also true that nowadays, with all the testing program we have, if you only have one test rider like Stefan, sometimes it is a big workload for one guy’.
