Fermín Aldeguer is back to winning ways in the Moto2 World Championship. This Sunday, he asserted himself in the German GP race, where he managed to take the lead for good after overtaking Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex).
The SpeedUp rider explained to the official broadcast that when he led for the first time, he couldn’t build a gap to his opponents. Therefore, he chose to remain calm and launch the decisive attack later:
– I’m very happy. At the start of the race, I felt very, very good, very strong, but when I tried to push without references was difficult to open a gap and I said: «Ok, I’ll wait a little bit, I’ll manage a bit more the tyres, I’ll see what the other riders are doing». But I was always very close, and when Arbolino was first and I was second, and [Celestino] Vietti was more or less at 0.4s, I said: «It’s the moment to push, overtake Arbolino, try to open the gap».
Managing the race circumstances like this, Aldeguer considers it a smart approach for a satisfying outcome: ‘We did an incredible race, a very intelligent race – it’s important. And I’m very, very happy. Thank you to the team because they always push with me, and to all my family – this race is also for my father. And also for the all «Fermíns»’.
