In a surprise during the second practice of the Moto2 Dutch GP, after a Friday dominated by Boscoscuro bikes, Somkiat Chantra broke the category lap record at Assen, leading this morning’s session.
Fermín Aldeguer (Folladore SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was the first to set a timed lap, and after Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) briefly took the lead, the future MotoGP rider returned to the top of the standings.
About three minutes later, he was surpassed by Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), who improved his time three times and led for 17 minutes… until Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex) recorded the fastest-ever Moto2 lap at Assen: 1m35.341s.
No one could beat the Thai rider by the end, but González came close, 0.114s behind. Arón Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) finished third, followed by Aldeguer and García.
In the fight for direct access to the second qualifying, the last to achieve it was Jake Dixon (CFMoto Inde Aspar/Kalex) with the 14th time. In 15th, Albert Arenas (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) missed out by just 0.050s. Only Daniel Muñoz (Preicanos Racing Team/Kalex) did not improve compared to yesterday, also missing the top 14.
