Jorge Martin fought for the MotoGP title until the last race of 2023, but at first, he didn’t expect to be a title contender. The Pramac rider recalled the moment he realized he had a real chance to do it.
‘Well, I think Misano was the moment when I said, “Okay, I’m the best right now.” Winning in Misano, in Italy, at their [Ducati’s] home was unbelievable. It was the best feeling ever,’ Martín began, before talking about the moment he saw his true potential for the current season, even when he made some wrong decisions:
– But then, when we went to India, I won the Sprint and finished second with the wrong tire.
The moment he saw that he could try to win the title happened in Motegi: ‘Then I went to Japan and won both races, so I think Japan was maybe the moment when I said we could win the championship.’
In the last race of the season, in Valencia, Martín had a big gap to Pecco Bagnaia and, while trying to recover some ground, he ended up crashing, taking Marc Márquez with him.
