Pedro Acosta arrived, saw… and almost won in MotoGP. The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider is making his debut this year and after three rounds already has two podiums. However, he is still a young rider with little experience, as pointed out by Randy Mamola.
In an interview with the website Motosan.es, the American was asked if #31 could suffer a repeat of what he experienced with difficulties in his debut year in Moto2, to which he replied: ‘He is a 20-year-old young man. When he was 17 or 18 years old, he was very young, so he is very fast, has a lot of talent, but he needed to recover his mentality and structure himself. It is very important the group of people around you, Pit Beirer and the people from KTM, and understand the races‘.
Pol Espargaró remains in the KTM structure as a test rider, and Mamola believes that the Spaniard could be an asset to the young rookie that is Acosta:
– I think someone like Pol Espargaró would be good to be inside that garage to help him. He is part of the KTM family. After the test, he was quite fast. He is another rider who has made this championship much more interesting for us.
On the other hand, the former American rider believes that Augusto Fernández could be another support for Acosta: ‘They need to communicate. They need to push each other. And in the end, if you beat your teammate, you are happy. And if you lose to your teammate, you need to work harder because you should be the first in the same garage‘.
