Maverick Viñales was one of the riders who worked the most during the morning of the MotoGP testing day in Jerez. At this moment, he has accumulated 42 laps and is in eighth position on the table.
The Spaniard summed up the work so far and what he aims to do in the afternoon: ‘It wasn’t a busy plan, but we needed to really identify some areas of the bike to improve, especially in braking. We tried new aerodynamics at the rear, on the seat, where I didn’t find anything positive, so I will keep the standard. And then try to understand things on the bike. Basically, in the afternoon, I will work again to try to stop the bike better. That’s our goal‘.
Satisfied with the performance, Viñales admitted that it will be necessary to understand why the performance dropped in yesterday’s race: ‘The lap time seems very competitive, also in terms of pace. I think we lacked something this weekend, we need to understand why today the bikes are working very well. So we need to understand why they didn’t work so well especially on Sunday – because for the rest of the weekend we were very competitive. We need to understand what is happening between bikes A and B‘.
The Aprilia man then said: ‘The best conditions were on Friday. Today, it’s like in the race probably, very similar – maybe a bit better because there is a lot of rubber. But I did a high 1m36s in pace, maybe in the race I was doing a mid 1m37s. We need to understand. There are differences between bikes A and B. Unfortunately, I competed with the bike that I feel I am not competitive with. This is something to warn us to go to the very last detail‘.
