Miguel Oliveira finished the MotoGP test in Mugello with the ninth fastest time. It was a day that literally washed away the plans to test solutions on the bikes.
The rain started early at the Italian circuit and, as a result, some riders didn’t go out on track and, of those who did, many didn’t even set timed laps.
That wasn’t the case for Oliveira. Despite acknowledging that it didn’t make sense to ride in the rain – missing the chance to try out new solutions for the Aprilia RS-GP – he still completed seven laps.
In his best lap, the Portuguese rider set a non-representative time of 1m58.282s, leaving him 10.665s behind the leader, Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM). The South African set the fastest time of the session at a time when the track wasn’t as wet.
With the need to make urgent improvements considering the below-par results, this was an important test for Oliveira – not only to test new features for the bike, but also to try to address the shortcomings in yesterday’s race at Mugello.
