Pedro Acosta guaranteed his second world championship in three seasons yesterday and will make the leap to MotoGP in 2024, and Joan Mir praised the young prodigy for what he has done. However, the Spaniard warned that MotoGP is a different level, with several race winners and world champions fighting against each other, also noting that he will have a very competitive bike.
The Repsol Honda rider started by congratulating the 19-year-old Spanish star: ‘I am very happy for Acosta, what he is doing is incredible and I see him as a very good guy. He deserves all the success he is having. Winning in these small categories is not easy, there is a lot of competition, but the way he won Moto2 is incredible, I wish him all the best for the future’.
In 2024, the level will be different and it will be difficult for the young rider to deal with it: ‘The hardest thing that can happen to him in MotoGP is realizing that there are all the big guys. There is a high level. In one race we are doing well and in the next one we have to fight to reach the points. I believe that the potential and talent that Acosta has can take him to the top’.
Acosta will have an RC16 at his disposal, with a lot of potential, Mir added: ‘KTM will be a good challenge for Ducatis, which will have strong riders. I see KTM as strong, it is a safe bet that will improve because they are working very well. But there are many Ducatis and they are very difficult to beat’.
