Jeffrey Herlings was the standout man in MXGP this week in Lommel, where he achieved a double victory. In both races, the rider did not have an easy task and was forced to step up, beating Jorge Prado in both motos to win.
The KTM rider was very pleased with his performance, revealing a slight knee touch in the first race, but that was not enough to stop him: ‘It was a very good weekend. In the first moto, I was trying to overtake the same guy a few times and ended up hitting him and hurting my knee. That meant I had to warm up and take it easy at the start of the second moto. Jorge [Prado] has been very strong at the beginning of the races, so I had to create a rhythm and try not to blow up. I passed him and created a small gap and then I managed.’
Still in third place in the overall standings, the Dutch rider showed a little of what he can really do and considered himself to be like this: ‘Every point counts and I fought for all of them today [this Sunday]. It’s a fun track and it’s obvious that I’m strong in the sand. I was defeated in Sardinia, but I have been improving more and more and riding more like the old me. I’m looking forward to the next one and soon to my home GP’.
This was ‘The Bullet’s’ second double victory in the current MXGP season.
