Miguel Oliveira was on the verge of scoring points in the Sprint race of the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas. The Trackhouse Racing man finished in 11th place after starting from 14th, but was part of the group fighting for seventh place until the last meters of the race.
The Portuguese described his Saturday in Austin: ‘It was a mediocre day, I feel. There were many positive aspects from a driving point of view, from Q1 and also from the Sprint. I had a bad start, I couldn’t make any overtakes and that left me a bit behind‘.
After this less than ideal start, Oliveira believes he had a good pace, but ultimately missed out on scoring points: ‘I felt I had a good pace, at least to fight in that group from seventh place to where I was. I managed to attack Brad [Binder] on the last lap, but eventually I was close, but far from being in the points‘.
For Sunday’s race, #88 wants to recover as much as possible right from the initial lap: ‘Hopefully with the longer race I can manage the start a bit better, make some overtakes. Track position is very important, so we need to recover as much as possible in the first lap and then see where our pace takes us‘.
