Fabio Quartararo may not have had an impressive resume in Moto2 and Moto3, but when he arrived in MotoGP in 2019, he immediately became a contender for top positions – so much so that, two years later, he became champion for the first time.
One of the people currently accompanying him is Julián Simón. The coach spoke to the Relevo website about what it’s like to work with the Frenchman, admitting that there are considerable challenges:
– It’s not easy at all. He’s someone who, from the first minute of the weekend or a test, goes out and puts himself in pilot mode, and he gives everything until he returns to the pit. When someone gives everything, the frustration is great because the expectation is high, because you don’t leave anything behind. With him, you have to suffer a lot from that and manage it very well. Because he is a “killer”, he is used to getting pole positions, getting victories, and he came to this world of motorcycling to win.
Simón recalled that Quartararo has had good performances and results since he arrived in MotoGP, and once again emphasized that managing expectations is essential when working with “El Diablo”: ‘With him, you have to fight and suffer from that, and manage this situation very well, try not to create very high expectations for him at these moments, not talk to him about positions, but rather about riding, and wherever he gets, he gets‘.
