David Alonso was the leader of the free practice of the Americas GP in Moto3. The times were still far from the Circuit of the Americas records, as this was the first contact with the track this weekend.
David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM) was leading after the first flying laps, but he was quickly surpassed. The Spanish rider returned to the top with his second attempt, but was overtaken again – this time by Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM). Then, Alonso (CFMoto Aspar) took the lead for the first time.
The Colombian stayed in front for about six minutes and returned there at the end of the first 20 minutes – after the first place had been in the hands of Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) and Ortolá. Within the last five minutes, Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) took the lead.
However, with his final lap, Alonso set the best time of all: 2m16.537s. Holgado finished second, 0.182s behind, while José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) set the third fastest time. Muñoz finished fourth and Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) completed a top five in which all riders set their personal best laps on their last attempts.
