Pedro Acosta is having a very strong performance at the beginning of his debut season in MotoGP and the praises directed at him keep coming. Now it was Antonio Jiménez who recalled the “old” 500cc category to highlight the rookie’s ability to solve whatever happens in a fraction of a second.
Aleix Espargaró’s chief mechanic spoke to Nico Abad about the impact Acosta is having, as quoted in Motosan: ‘The great champions, one of whom emerges every 10 years, overcome problems, adapt very quickly. This kid analyzes in a millisecond what happens, digests it, and solves it’.
To reinforce his point of view, Jiménez recalled what happened in the previous class: ‘Do you remember the era of the 500cc? They started with 27 kilos of fuel and the rider managed. And when they ran out of rubber at the end, smoking the rear tire, the rider could still manage’.
For Aleix Espargaró’s team manager, this is not an easy task and yet, Acosta… is all smiles: ‘Here the rider has to adapt and in MotoGP it is much easier, it is true that now there are many things that have an influence, besides the fact that aerodynamics is not easy. A kid like him, coming from Moto2, with a bike that goes at 350 km/h, that has a huge cornering speed, with incredible aerodynamic load and who finishes the race physically, you see him and he is happy…’
