Pol Espargaró retired from the MotoGP World Championship this season, as he did not have a place for 2024. He remains at KTM in backstage roles, with possible wildcard participations next year.
In an interview with the Relevo website, the Spanish rider admitted that he is nearing the end of his sporting career: ‘Maybe it’s not the complete end, but it’s the beginning of the end, without a doubt. But, well, it’s time to be satisfied with everything I’ve done over the past years‘.
Although he considers himself to have had sporting merit, Espargaró still feels lucky for the career he had: ‘It’s evident that what allowed me to be here are the results and being competitive, but probably there are many riders who are competitive and who at most don’t have the opportunity that I had, so I feel very lucky‘.
Now that he is leaving the peloton, #44 is going through a transition period, as he stated: ‘First, it’s time to recover myself, to recover my physical state and regain what I was in terms of confidence and physical aspect, and even a bit in quality of life. Spend more time with myself, with my family‘.
