BMW has been pointed out as one of the most likely new constructors to enter MotoGP with the new rules of 2027, presented earlier this week. However, despite considering this possibility, the focus is currently on the World Superbike Championship and there will be no MotoGP program without achieving success in the production-derived motorcycle championship.
This assurance comes from the management director of BMW Motorrad, who told SPEEDWEEK.com: ‘For me, there is no way to climb the ladder without success. This is out of the question for me, that’s why I told my team from day one: success in the World Superbike Championship is a requirement. At the same time, we can prepare, but I will only make decisions if we are successful‘.
According to the official, BMW will carefully evaluate the matter and when the decision about MotoGP is made, it will have the global support of the management:
– We are looking at this strategically. Then we have to evaluate it very well, in no way will it be a personal passionate decision of mine. This will be a decision supported widely by the management. In a company like BMW, all decisions as big as these are widely supported and the preparation has to be done and justified accordingly. If everything makes sense, then you have stability in the long term, because someone will be the director of BMW Motorrad after me. That’s why I can’t say anything concrete yet, we will start the evaluation.
