BMW Motorrad is restructuring and, as of June 1, will have Sven Blusch as the new racing director – succeeding Marc Bongers in the position. However, the leader of the manufacturer in the Superbike World Championship will not lose importance, but rather focus on the goal of achieving titles in that championship.
As for Blusch, he will be in charge of sports programs in general, including evaluating the expansion of activities… as BMW is rumored to be a possible new constructor in MotoGP from 2027. This is not the only recent change in the structure: last November, Markus Flasch became director of BMW Motorrad, succeeding Markus Schramm.
And, in statements to the site SPEEDWEEK.com, Flasch clarified Bongers’ situation, ensuring that it is not a resignation or demotion: ‘Marc Bongers has not been replaced, he is in a very firm position. He is doing a great job in WSBK. What we are doing is strengthening the team, with someone taking care of the strategic work outside of WSBK. We are not demoting him. We are considering whether we can make our motor sports program bigger at Motorrad. This is not just in MotoGP, it can be in other formats where we can get involved. It makes sense that solving this is not something you overlook when you are trying to become world champion in WSBK‘.
The manager then emphasized: ‘I said it is a duty to be successful in WSBK. We have the best and fastest rider [Toprak Razgatlioglu] and we have made great progress in terms of technology. Marc takes care of us being world champions. Sven Blusch will take care of the long-term strategy and see where the journey after a world title in WSBK takes us‘.
