This Tuesday, the Sepang tests did not start well for Raúl Fernández. The Trackhouse Racing rider suffered a heavy fall that forced him to be examined in a hospital and will miss the next two days at the Malaysian circuit.
According to the team, the decision was made to avoid serious injuries to the hip and pelvis, which were severely bruised. The Spanish rider will return home to recover in time for the Qatar test in about two weeks.
Fernández stated in a press release: ‘First of all, I would like to apologize to Aprilia and our Trackhouse Racing MotoGP Team. This morning, in my first laps, I had a big fall due to the track conditions. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to happen. But because of that fall, I won’t be able to continue this test here in Sepang. I feel really bad because we won’t have the chance to continue understanding the new bike and learning how it is’.
Regarding the reason for stepping away from the rest of the Sepang test, #25 clarified: ‘For me, it will be important now to recover well and rest. Riding the bike like this is not safe for me, so I need to focus on my recovery and try to be 100 percent for the Qatar test in order to do all the work we planned to do here. Once again, I want to apologize to Aprilia and the team’.
