Yamaha recently announced the new Y-AMT manual transmission system. The models that will use it for the first time are not yet known, but there are two speculated candidates: the Tracer 9 GT+ and the MT-09.
The Y-AMT is an automated manual transmission, allowing the driver to focus only on the performance of the motorcycle. It features dual manual and automatic modes, with quick and precise gear changes with just the touch of a button.
In manual transmission (MT), gear changes are made with the touch of a button, without using the clutch lever. As for the automatic mode (AT), there are two different programs: D+ (for more dynamic driving) and D (for long distances or commuting), allowing for manual gear changes at any time.
The patent uses the CP2 base as an example, which includes the MT-07, R7, and Ténéré 700 Space models. According to the Motorrad Online website, the 2025 MT-09 could be the first Yamaha with the new Y-AMT, taking into account the images in which the system was presented with elements that clearly point to this motorcycle.
On the other hand, there is also a reference to the Tracer, with a city traffic situation being used to show that the motorcycle brakes and downshifts in the event of a car braking in front of it. This indicates an adaptive cruise control, exclusive to the Tracer 9 GT+ in the Yamaha range.
