Ducati had two of its riders fighting for the MotoGP title until the end – Francesco Bagnaia, from the official team, and Jorge Martín, from Prima Pramac. The factory rider ended up becoming champion, but both had equal opportunities from the manufacturer.
This was the guarantee given by the general manager of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna. The Italian said that Bagnaia’s title would be better for the manufacturer, but sportsmanship prevailed and both riders were given the same opportunities:
– The numbers of this season are unbelievable. I am really proud of it. It was a difficult year because we had two riders who were fighting for the title together and it’s difficult for us – because we have to give them the best chances to try to win the title. We have to keep an equal distance between the two. It is true that it would be better for us if Pecco wins in the end because it is very important for our sponsors and for Ducati Corse. But we have to be sportsmen and give both the best opportunities. And we did that.
