Marc Márquez said goodbye to Repsol Honda in MotoGP this year with a very modest season. The low level of the RC213V prevented him from fighting for the results that were usual for him throughout his career, and he finished 14th in the championship. He only achieved one podium in the main race and one pole position, in addition to being absent due to injury more than once.
Alberto Puig, team manager of Honda, told the official championship website that it was a tough year for the six-time champion of the premier class, in which he couldn’t show his true level:
– It wasn’t easy. We started the year with an injury. In the first race, he had a problem with his thumb. It’s not the right way to start, he wasn’t lucky at the time. And from then on, there were a lot of difficulties with the bike and clearly not his performance. The situation wasn’t working. We believe that his level is much higher than what he showed. It’s not good to see a champion in this kind of situation or result, but it happened like this.
