During a recent interview at the presentation event of the new R 20 concept, BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch shared ideas about the future of BMW electric motorcycles, highlighting the company’s strategy to lead the transformation towards sustainable mobility. Markus Flasch emphasized that BMW Motorrad is committed to developing electric motorcycles that maintain the spirit of innovation and performance that defines the brand.
One of the main points discussed was the launch of the BMW CE 04, an electric scooter that combines futuristic design with cutting-edge technology. This model is just the beginning of BMW’s ambitious range of electric products. Markus Flasch revealed that the company is working on a complete range of electric motorcycles, including more powerful and performance-oriented models.
‘There is a logical side and an emotional side to the response. The logical side is that, when we look at the facts and figures of the [Vision DC Roadster], its development was quite mature. But it was, by far, not competitive with a model like the M 1000 RR’.
‘And then we looked at how the business is going, as well as at the competitors, we have 77% of the total electric motorcycle market with our electric scooters CE 04 and CE 02. So, why would I invest BMW’s money to build a motorcycle to enter the remaining 23%? It doesn’t make sense. Not now, maybe later. And the emotional part is that if we talk to users, I haven’t found anyone who says ‘I would spend 30,000 euros on an electric motorcycle to go around the lake or climb the mountain’.
