Miguel Oliveira finished the MotoGP British Grand Prix practice in 15th position. Therefore, the Trackhouse Racing pilot will have to go through the first phase of tomorrow’s qualifying in Silverstone, in a performance very different from the one he had before the summer break in Sachsenring.
With his first lap launched, “Falcão” stayed in the top five of the time table – being the first time this weekend that he was using a hard tire on the front wheel. With the second lap, he maintained the fifth position.
By not improving on the third launched lap, Oliveira dropped to tenth… and continued to lose positions, even though he improved in the following attempts. He entered the pits when he was 17th and fifteen minutes had passed.
About ten minutes later, Oliveira returned to the track when he was already 18th, opting for a used hard tire on the front and a new soft one on the back. After only two laps in which he did not improve, #88 headed back to the pits once again.
It was within the last 20 minutes that Oliveira started a new sequence of laps, with two new tires: hard on the front and soft on the back. And, on his second lap of this outing, he managed to considerably improve: he dropped to 1m59s and rose to tenth. He reentered the pits after setting that time.
In the last five minutes, Oliveira returned to the track when he had already dropped to 14th, needing to improve to qualify directly for Q2. And, although he did it, it was not enough to go beyond 15th, thus missing the direct passage to the second phase of qualifying. He was also the lowest ranked of the four Aprilia riders.
