Miguel Oliveira finished 12th in the second free practice session of the Austrian MotoGP Grand Prix. Without competitive times, this was an opportunity for the Portuguese Trackhouse Racing rider to search for and experiment with solutions to improve the many problems he experienced yesterday in Spielberg.
In the first outing on track, #88 used two used tires on the Aprilia RS-GP: medium at the front and soft at the rear. He solidly positioned himself among the top ten in the early stages, although the times were higher than in yesterday’s afternoon practice session.
After the first ten minutes, Oliveira had dropped to 12th place. That was the position he held when he entered the pit box with 17 minutes remaining. He returned to the track in the final ten minutes with the same previous tires.
In the third lap of this sequence, Oliveira improved and dropped to 1m29s, but that only moved him up to 11th place. After that, he did not improve his time any further and would eventually return to 12th place, where he finished. “Falcão” even decided not to set a time on his final lap, returning to the pits.
