A Honda parece to have shown signs of growth this weekend and Johann Zarco was happy with part of what he was able to do, although overall it was a frustrating race… due to his own mistake.
The LCR Honda rider finished the race in 14th place and regretted not finishing higher, all because of his own mistake: ‘Much better feelings in the race than in the Saturday race. [Luca] Marini and I started well but I was able to overtake him quickly, I felt that I had enough speed to stay with the group in front of me, and I tried to do just that but I made a mistake in turn 11 and that’s why I got upset, and at the end of the race, because of that mistake, I didn’t get closer to the top ten’.
The performance of the Honda is at stake, with the Frenchman admitting that he went a little beyond the limits of what the bike can effectively do, and that with this “stretching of the rope” he ended up making a mistake that he knows he cannot make: ’10th or 11th place would have been a very good position and that’s what we’re aiming for now, but because of a mistake, and because I have to push hard, as I want, to follow the other riders, but it’s not that I should be reasonable and accept that’.
Going beyond what he knows is possible was the reason he didn’t do better, but there were still positive points as he explained:
– I can’t try too hard or I’ll risk a mistake and lose more time, and that’s exactly what happened and that’s why I got upset, but after analyzing the situation and the weekend we had a better performance than in the previous GP and that’s very important to have more confidence.
