Carlos Checa, one of the MotoGP and WSBK legends, was present at the Italian GP, where Francesco Bagnaia ended up winning. The former Spanish rider spoke about the big news in the rider market for the 2025 season, specifically the movements of Marc Márquez and Jorge Martín.
In statements to the Open Paddock program on DAZN, Checa first spoke about Marc Márquez and Dall’Igna.
– Marc knows that Ducati will dominate until probably 2027. Ducati will always be a competitive bike as long as Gigi is behind it; with this ability to organize, lead, understand the competition, and outline a very clear path for having the most competitive bike on the grid. They didn’t want to lose Marc, that was the feeling he gave me.
He also added about Márquez and Martín: ‘They know their potential and what they can enhance. They didn’t like having him as a rival at all, it could be in conditions that put them in sporting danger. I believe they were already negotiating (Martín and Aprilia) and the negotiations were quite advanced while waiting for Ducati’s decision. I think they were debating who was better, Martin or Marc, and Ducati wanted a little more time. Which is unattainable because we can’t wait. Otherwise, we reach the end of the season and have nothing. The choice of Marc Márquez is not without sacrifices: Jorge Martin, Enea Bastianini, and perhaps Pramac. Some will say it’s expensive to pay for a single transfer…’
