Ducati will have Marc Márquez in its ranks in MotoGP in 2024, racing for the Gresini satellite team with a bike from this year. Although it seems ideal to have such a strong rider as the six-time champion of the premier class, according to Jorge Lorenzo not everyone wanted him on board a Desmosedici GP.
Quoted by the website Motosan.es, the former rider spoke of some disagreement within Ducati’s management regarding the arrival of Marc Márquez: ‘The arrival of Marc is good news for Ducati because they get the best rider at no cost. But this is also a problem because not all Ducati executives wanted Marc‘.
Lorenzo explained that there are two worrying factors: ‘Gigi [Dall’Igna, general manager] certainly wanted it because he always aims for the strongest riders. However, there are two aspects that are concerning: the first is losing Marc after just one year, because then he would take all the knowledge he acquired with him. The second is that he can beat [Jorge] Martín and [Francesco] Bagnaia. I think he will win many races next year. I don’t know if he will be able to fight for the title, but if I had to bet, I would bet on him‘.
