Augusto Fernández debuted this year in MotoGP, finishing in 17th place. The GasGas Tech3 rider faced the challenges inherent in adaptation and more, but was a regular presence in the points and achieved fourth place in France as his best result. The campaign pleased KTM, whose sports director, Pit Beirer, expects even better for 2024.
In statements to SPEEDWEEK.com, the manager summarized #37’s season: ‘With Augusto, we experienced the second halves of the races in 2023, when he was doing top three lap times. In other areas, we will support Augusto so that he can improve there. He simply has to continue as usual, and the improvements we expect will come automatically. He did the work of 2023 extremely well for a rookie. We believe in him and are convinced that he will continue to improve in 2024’.
After a season in which Fernández was even under pressure of not having a place in 2024, Beirer believes that the Spaniard will have good performances in the upcoming season: ‘Let’s not forget that last summer he was under contract pressure because it was uncertain if he would stay in MotoGP. The pressure for the rider still has its challenges. But Augusto will stabilize and achieve good results next year’.
