Yamaha managed to find something in the Indian GP that hinted that the season of the Japanese manufacturer and its two riders could turn around. However, neither Franco Morbidelli nor Fabio Quartararo were able to maintain the good results in Japan.
And after a Sprint where Quartararo was only 15th and Morbidelli 16th, the Sunday race was no better, with the Yamaha riders finishing 10th and 17th respectively.
In the debrief, Franco Morbidelli explained that he could have achieved a better result with rain tires, but chose to take a risk, something that did not pay off:
– Intenté apostar por una estrategia diferente, intenté quedarme en pista con neumáticos lisos, porque estaba lloviendo y esperaba que parara, pero al final no sucedió. De todas formas, hubo una apuesta de todo o nada que desafortunadamente no compensó. Luego, con los neumáticos de lluvia, mi velocidad era buena, pero ya estaba muy atrás. Aun así, fue bueno soñar por algunos momentos.
